Scarab EV: vendor 3 → 1

The vendor in Path of Exile trades 3 scarabs for 1 random one of another type, and rare kinds come up less often. EV here is the mean poe.ninja price in the current league, weighted by tier: what the scarab you get is worth on average. The vendor threshold is EV divided by three: a scarab worth no more than that is better vendored than sold.

The weights are an estimate: GGG publishes none and has not stated them for this recipe. Scarabs fall into five tiers weighted 3, 2, 1, 0.12 and 0.014. The tiers come from the rarity tags in the game data, with six exceptions, and the coefficients are our own conclusion from player samples: the ScarabEV aggregate (55,553 outputs in 3.29, 50,223 in 3.28) and Lextra's table (33,333 outputs). Players submit those samples themselves, so bias is possible. Equal weights would overstate EV about 4.5 times here. The 3.24.0 patch notes say the output is “of type different from those vendored”, but whether that means the family or the exact scarab is unknown. The line “Largest share of the EV” shows which scarabs move the mean the most.

The table runs from the cheapest scarab to the dearest. The “3 × → vendor” column shows what vendoring three of that scarab returns on average at the chosen threshold; a green value means the trade pays off. Scarabs with low volume are marked “thin trading”. Only current league prices count: scarabs without one are left out, so EV can shift noticeably in a league's first hours. A kind with no weight entry, such as one new in this league, counts as tier 3, and the page says how many there are.

The stash search string highlights the scarabs at or below the threshold, so you can pull them out and trade them to the vendor. The threshold comes from an estimate or from what you type, and a tick in the table adds or removes a scarab. The Tool picks the shorter form by itself: the list of scarabs to sell, or every scarab except the rest. A list over 250 characters splits into several strings to apply one after another. Scarabs without a current league price stay out of the string. It has not been checked in the game client, so look at what lights up before you sell it.
